It has been quite a year and we wanted to share with you a quick round-up of 2022

Masterclass

In April, we collaborated on our first Masterclass in Healthcare Procurement with NEVI and EHPPA – the European Health Public Procurement Alliance. The Masterclass brought together 9 nationalities to learn how to identify gaps and opportunities in the market, and develop a more strategic approach to hospital procurement. It was a great event, thanks in part to our inspiring guests and teaching sessions from Frank Rozemeijer, Karsten Machholz and Dieter Zocholl, as well as the active engagement of our participants from all over Europe.

We are already looking forward to the next Masterclass on 23 – 24 of March 2023. Visit the website for more information.

E-pitching with EIC

In the spring, as part of the run up to the Summit later in the year, we joined forces with EHPPA and the EIC – the European Commission’s main agency in support of innovation – to step up innovation in the health sector. The aim of this collab was to improve agility and efficiency in access to innovation, accelerate the development of cutting-edge projects and facilitate the identification of international talent.

The two organisations selected several innovative EIC-funded start-ups to pitch in front of a selected group of procurers. The companies awarded ‘Best pitch’ were subsequently invited to Brussels to meet hundreds of healthcare procurers at the 1st Pan-European, Hospital & Healthcare Procurement Summit. It was a great experience which brought together medtech companies and health organisations from Sweden, Spain, Portugal, Germany and France.

1st Pan-European Hospital & Healthcare Procurement Summit

After quite a few postponements over the past few years – caused by the pandemic, it was a momentous occasion when the doors finally opened on the 1st Pan-European Hospital & Healthcare Procurement Summit in Brussels. We welcomed over 500 healthcare and procurement leaders and specialists from Europe and beyond for two days of networking, thought leadership, new perspectives, expertise and sharing best practices.

The agenda featured panel discussions and workshops held in French, German, Spanish and English, from some of the world’s leading organisations and startups – including the NHS, Helsana, Sanofi, Microsoft, Amazon, XMED iQ; It was a great success.

The Summit also saw the launch of The European Healthcare Procurement Awards, with teams from PharmaSwap, Amgros, and SPMS – the Portuguese Health Service – claiming victory in the Sustainability, Innovation & Procurement Excellence, and Digitalization and Transparency categories respectively.

Innovation was a key pillar of the Summit and once again, attendees were rewarded with insights from the best and brightest in the field: ground-breaking tech for radiologists, new EEG headsets, non-invasive cancer detection, new therapeutic interventions for neurological conditions, 3D printed patient-specific joints and implants, personalised pain management based on electrical stimulation…. you name it. It was a privilege to bring buyers and suppliers together in this way.

And again, we could not have done it without the support of our sponsors. Thank you all!

Launch of Project PROcure
Suppliers are global… why not us?

During the Pan-European Hospital and Healthcare Procurement Summit, Project PROcure was also launched. Project PROcure is a global coalition initiated by ourselves and HealthPRO (Canada) to advance sustainability, supply chain resilience and innovation in healthcare.

The goal of the project is to bring together public and private healthcare buyers from across Europe and North America, and empower them to:

  • Influence healthcare buying in the future in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the European Principles for the Environment, Canada’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and other international agreements
  • Minimise supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures
  • Drive innovation and digitalization to achieve better outcomes

Project PROcure is working to combine industry knowledge and best practice to help overcome procurement’s greatest challenges.

Joint venture with EHPPA

We’ve worked extensively with EHPPA throughout 2022. Our ‘simple partnership’ was formed on the basis of making healthcare procurement itself an important, recognised stakeholder in the healthcare sector. Now that we’ve surpassed that goal, we’re building on our partnership to increase visibility, attract new members and strengthen our relationships with academic institutions.

In the coming year, we hope to continue our joint work to become an accelerator for the exchange of best practices in the fields of transparency, digitalisation and innovation, sustainability and supply chain, by initiating and supporting commercial and non-commercial activities with controlled access to serve our respective financial health. We will keep you posted on the next steps we are taking.

Procure 4 Health

June saw the launch of Procure4Health (P4H), an EU initiative that aims to create an open community of healthcare procurement stakeholders, bringing together suppliers and buyers to share knowledge, build capacity, network and connect.

P4H is funded by the European Commission with the aim of building a successful ecosystem of Health and Social Care procurers at the local, regional and European level, to empower all those involved in Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI). The community will analyse current barriers to innovative and sustainable procurement, then create and share tools to facilitate PPI for the sector.

We’re proud to be a member and it was wonderful to meet up with the rest of the Consortium in Malaga in October with the aim of creating synergies and ensuring sustainability by connecting it with existing initiatives, like the online Healthcare Procurement Community Platform created during the Summit.

Join the community for healthcare innovation in procurement.

Between the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, soaring inflation and political unrest in countries around the world, 2022 has been a challenging year. But for everybody at Health Proc Europe, it has been a year of opportunity. We couldn’t have done it alone, which is why we’d like to thank all our colleagues who not only joined us on this journey, but also made it possible. Thank you.
