About
Dieter Zocholl has over 20 years experience, in-depth expertise and profound knowledge when it comes to the digital health and the European hospital and healthcare service provider sector.
On the foundation of this knowledge and his international healthcare network established over the last 20 years, Dieter has launched the first European association for hospital and healthcare procurement managers:
Health Proc Europe- his aim is to create Europe’s largest digital healthcare procurement ecosystem
As the Managing Partner of Alerion AG, Swiss and since 2004, InMEDiG AG, Swiss, Dieter and his team provide industry-independent procurement consultancy for the European hospital and healthcare sector.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Dieter worked for Deutsche Bank, Roland Berger Consultants and an auditing firm. He holds a diploma in Economics of Administration, with Law as a minor subject from the University of Konstanz, Germany.
Digitally available unique Knowledge of Medical Products/Devices
As a result of the knowledge gained over the last 15 years, InMEDiG has now established a unique database with more than six million product data entries with information such as prices per country and detailed product characteristics; the database also allows products to be compared very quickly to find out what savings changing a product can bring about or whether certain product characteristics represent an added value compared to another product.
Another unique feature of this database is the public European tender specifications for all major product groups.
These include:
- Orthopedic implants
Hip, knee, spine, trauma/osteosynthesis) - Heart implants
Pacemakers, implantable cardio defibrillators, all types of heart valves, TAVIs, all types of vascular stents, wires, guides - Radiology
Radiology stents, wires, guides - Miscellaneous
Laboratory products, staplers, sutures, ward-based consumables, OPs consumables, eye implants, etc.
What is special about these documents – some of which consist of several hundred pages – is that these products are classified as ‘manufacturer-neutral’. This is required by European law to ensure a non-discriminatory tender procedure. In addition to the quantitative description, there are also several qualitative features that strongly include quality and medical outcome measurement (e.g. international register data) in the product decision. Many people nowadays are talking about value-based procurement – something InMEDiG has been practicing for more than 10 years.
Since doctors and other medical professionals have always been heavily involved in the projects, these vendor-neutral product descriptions and vendor-neutral product comparison proposals have been “medically confirmed” by the opinions of thousands of physicians/medical professionals expressed in related meetings and often “tough” discussions.
Not to mention that these vendor-neutral product descriptions and vendor-neutral product comparison proposals have also been recognised as “neutral” by the international Med Tech industry. Otherwise, these public tenders wouldn´t have been successfully completed.
In 1998, Dieter co-founded GesundheitScout24 (now Sanvartis). This was the first generation of Internet health/telemedicine start-up companies with more than 200 doctors, nurses and medical assistants in Europe’s biggest medical call centre at that time. The GesundheitsScout24 Group provided more than 40% of German-speaking policyholders in the DACH region with Internet health and telemedicine services via clients providing statutory insurance, e.g. Barmer, Techniker Krankenkasse, a number of AOKs (general health insurance funds) and a few private European health insurance funds. GesundheitScout24 was among Scout24’s biggest European Internet networks (including Autoscout24, ImmoScout24, FinanceScout24 and FriendScout24, for example). The Scout24 network (whose start-up investor was Beisheim Holding Switzerland. Otto Beisheim was one of the founders of Metro AG) was sold to Deutsche Telekom AG in 2004. For more than 15 years, Dieter has been an entrepreneur in the independent procurement consulting sector for hospitals and the healthcare service providers industry, collaborating with international clients, e.g. in DACH, the UK, France, Italy, Belgium, Portugal, the Nordics; Denmark, Sweden and Norway as well as the Czech Republic and Estonia. In 2015, InMEDiG was awarded the contract to carry out the first pan-European procurement project for one of the biggest pan-European hospital operators. In 2019, InMEDIG started a project for one of the world’s leading healthcare service providers. Due to his international expertise, profound knowledge and experience Dieter has, in recent years, unveiled one of the best-kept secrets for his international clients: The incredible differences in price for exactly the same international medical devices and equipment across Europe.
